BUILDING ACCESS AUDITING

Since the Disability Discrimination Act was introduced, Local, State and Commonwealth Governments and Agencies, owners and managers of premises have increasingly been seeking expert advice on accessibility within the built environment for people with a disability.

Neylan Architecture provides certified, current and accurate advice to clients seeking to understand their responsibility in relation to accessible premises and how to bring an existing building in-line with current standards.

Our focus is on finding the most appropriate access solutions for our clients. Many older building will have inherent access issues when assessed against the new requirements of the Building Code of Australia (BCA) and Disability Discrimination Act (DDA). An Access Audit will identify any underlying access issues of a building and will assist the owner in gaining be better understanding of how to manage the risks of access discrimination and how to address any critical access issues.  

In conducting an access audit Neylan Architecture will identify the areas of a building which fall short of the accessibility standards and will develop an action plan to appropriately upgrade, maintain and improve facilities to provide equal access for all.

Audit Types

 _Design Audits
 A documentation review of the proposed facility to provide recommendations on access improvements and access issues, generally prior to Development Approval or Building Approval lodgement.

_Acquisition Audits
A short written report clarifying any potential access issues, generally undertaken for prospective purchasers or lease holders of a property.

_Access Audits
A detailed written audit of any existing facility to advise of any improvements required based on both the BCA requirements and the DDA requirements
