Over the last few years, Neylan Architecture's design expertise has expanded into Health Planning through a series of  Brisbane projects.

These consultancies  involved master planning,  development of a design brief  and development of  architectural layouts for pricing and promotion.

Planning focused mainly on integrated  health faciliites,  including aged care, post-acute care,  specialized  hospitals and support health services.

Project 1: Beenleigh Integrated Health Centre
Picture
This project  analysed the potential for develoment of a Hospital and  Integrated Health Care  Centre on property in   Beenleigh in close  proximity to the local business centre. The main components  include a hospital, an aged care facility   and a post-acute care facility.   Additional components include a support health services and a multi-storey car park.  The brief of accommodation requirements was developed in collaboration between Architects and Client. Site planning and building bulk scenario were investigated for an amalgamated 12,430sqm corner property with  (3) street frontages.

The brief included:   120 aged care beds
                                 150 post-acute care beds
                                 152 hospital beds

The gross floor area including required support facilities is 24,200sqm. The multi-storey carpark building component provided 490 parking spaces including services areas & circulation totalling 15,000sqm.

The development includes a  north-east facing "Green Roof" recreation area for patients. This landscaped area provides outdoor contemplative recovery areas along with views to all bedrooms and communal spaces.

The proposed multi-layered layout is integrated through a circulation/services laneway which enables great flexibility and easy circulation between uses.

Project 2:  Green Link Health Precinct, Master Plan

This development envisions the emergence of a new integrated Health Precinct that caters for the future expansion needs of the Princess Alexander Hospital Health Precinct.  The Master Plan's main aim, is to link the new health facilites with the existing PA Health Precinct.

The existing gap is bridged through a "Green Link" or "Aerial Park" which bridges Ipswich Road providing continuity to  both public space and health facilities. This substantial public space will also provide retail and other mixed-use opportunities.

The proposed link will work at two (2) levels: The lower level will link health facilties while providing additional area for health services;
The top level  will provide much needed active and landscaped public space in an area where transport infrastructure projects have destroyed the urban fabric.

Project 3:  Integrated Health Facility, Buranda

As part of the Green Link Health Precinct Master Plan, this project investigated the potential for develoment of  high-care aged  and sub-acute nursing care facilities on property  in Buranda in close  proximity to the Princess Alexandra Hospital. The brief of accommodation requirements was  developed in collaboration between Architects and Client .

Site  planning and building bulk scenarios have been investigated  for a 3,000sqm property with frontage to Wolseley Street. Our investigations establish the following broad accommodation  outcomes:

- 420 beds (120  nursing care plus 300 sub-acute care)
- Gross floor area including  required support facilities aggregates to  23,500sqm
- 429 vehicle parking spaces including services areas & circulation  totalling  14,200sqm

The programme originally  included a  proposal for a  new “Air Link”  bridge  between the PA Hospital and the proposed  development.  The "Air link"Link was initially envisioned as a two-level connection  which would allow  at one  level secure and segregated travel for both  health workers and patients  between  facilites. This concpet was late replaced by the abovementioned "Green Link".
